Australian TV legend Ernie Carroll, who was Ossie Ostrich’s puppeteer on Hey Hey It’s Saturday, has died aged 92.
He died of pure causes at his retirement residence in Victoria on Wednesday.
He’s survived by his associate Miffy Marsh, daughter Lynne and son Bruce.
Tributes from the showbiz world began pouring in upon information of his demise.
“It’s with overwhelming unhappiness I announce the passing of my beloved good friend and mentor Ernie Carroll,” Hey Hey It’s Saturday host Daryl Somers wrote.
“I’m so grateful for Ernie’s early steering of my profession. He auditioned me for the internet hosting position on Cartoon Nook again in early 1971.
“He was a person of few phrases with a quiet countenance however when he did converse he imparted nice knowledge… I beloved him very a lot. Relaxation in peace Ern. Eternally in my coronary heart.”
Ernie performed and voiced Ossie from 1971 till 1974.
He appeared in a reunion particular and did a brand new sequence of episodes in 2010.
